More photographs from Brian’s archives which did not make the book. You can see how much damage there is on the live shot of Chuck Berry from the wings for example.
The embroidered satin shirt image Brian thinks was taken in Bradford. The shot from the wings shows Berry on stage with his backing group for the tour The Dominoes, that’s also three of them them in the backstage photograph (l-r Howie Casey, Dave Woods, Chuck and we think Bobby Thompson). The colour image was taken at The Princess Club in Manchester. There is more information on the shows and venues in the book.
Lastly is an alternative shot of the Buddy Guy concert at The Twisted Wheel. There are more from this sequence in the book. It looks like Buddy is trying to block the sound in one ear so he can get an idea if everyone is in tune!

A wonderful book of photographic documents and memorabilia by the brilliant Brian Smith. I’ve had the book for two days and have already not only devoured it but also widely recommended it to many of my friends and/or collaborators. These are the ones who donate photos, biographies (bilingual), and complete discographies to design Big Beat Magazine, an independent, non-commercial, and non-profit magazine since… 1969!
