After a hiatus caused by reorganising our publishing plan, and Simon’s illness, this title is now being relaunched and we finally expect it to ship during 2024. As well as the regular softback edition, there is limited edition of the book signed by drummer Ian Paice.  There are only 125 copies like this, and the publishers have made a donation to a charity of Ian’s choice for this.  The book format is the first in our larger size A4 “Landscape” series (learn more by clicking the link) and the updated cover design is shown below:

This is the first of our Barry Plummer books, featuring material from the important Melody Maker freelance photographer. It covers the highly influential and successful rock band Deep Purple. Formed in 1968, Barry photographed the group at a number of important shows in the early seventies, including their Royal Albert Hall debut (as a band without an orchestra!), appearances at the BBC for Top Of The Pops and In Concert, shows in 1972 and 1973 and then their British tour in 1974.  The photographs, mostly in mono but with some rare colour material, feature arguable the group’s most important line-ups, Mk 2 with Ian Gillan and Roger Glover, then Mk 3 with Coverdale and Hughes.  Barry also covered some press launches.

We will be adding new previews and galleries to the site as these are released by the designer. Historical and contextual material is being provided by Deep Purple archive expert Simon Robinson, who co-ordinated the band’s archive reissues for over 30 years.
