One of Canadas most respected music sites / quarterly magazines asked The Art Of The Bizarre Vinyl Sleeve co-author Simon Robinson to do a Q & A session for them recently, which can be read on their site now. It’s a very good site to subscribe to in any case, check them out!

If you are in the North West, Steve’s Bizarre Vinyl display at The Williamson in Birkenhead finishes on Saturday this week (27th). It then moves across to Alnwick in the North East in early February. And before we all collectively try and get on with the new year here’s one of the festive sleeves which didn’t make Steve’s book The Art Of The Bizarre Vinyl Sleeve… is uptrousering a thing? And if so should it be make illegal?
Maybe Stranger Things is a running feature in the Yorkshire Post newspaper’s Saturday 16th Magazine? Not sure how else to explain the heading! It was my Mum’s favourite paper, so a shame she is no longer around to see this and it is a well written article about The Art Of The Bizarre Vinyl Sleeve book (see below) and Steve’s collection. Just a shame they showed the back of the book not the front…! As for the author photo… Anyway we have put up the full article on this site.
Happy to announce that THE ART OF THE BIZARRE VINYL SLEEVE book is shipping NOW; indeed it will be landing this week for many people who placed a pre-order. Lots of folk picked up on it after a great discussion on Radio 4‘s arts programme Front Row this week – which you can listen to (or read the subtitles) on Steve Goldman’s Instagram feed https://www.instagram.com/reel/C0OrAKitAul/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Another great review of the Art Of The Bizarre Vinyl Sleeve appearing in the Christmas issue of the always excellent Shindig music magazine. Very pleasing when people get exactly what a book is all about! You can read the review in full on our site while the magazine is on the news stands December 7th. Meanwhile here are folk enjoying themselves at the opening of Steve’s new exhibition at The Williamson Gallery on The Wirral.
Just a heads up over a great review for The Art Of The Bizarre Vinyl Sleeve in the brand new issue of Record Collector magazine (Dec 2023 issue 551). We all think it’s a great book obviously but if you want to get an unbiased opinion, you can check it out on our site. As I think we already pointed out, pre-orders for this upcoming title (due later this month) can now be placed at our shop with an early-bird discount.
The Art Of The Bizarre Vinyl Sleeve is starting to get noticed ahead of publication (the book can be pre-ordered now via our shop). Part of this has been due to the news of Stewart Lee doing a foreword for the book. We asked Stewart as he is [a] our favourite comedian, [b] a clever writer and [c] a vinyl collector, so we were very chuffed when he agreed (we did also try and contact Dolly Parton but has no luck there!). You will have to read his piece in the book; suffice it to say we had tears rolling down our faces.
The Williamson Museum and Gallery are throwing themselves into the spirit with an exhibition of Steve’s sleeves starting on November 17th (check their site for opening times), and on Friday 15th December they are throwing a Worst Records Christmas Party! 6-8pm, Entrance is free but only by ticket, available through Linktree. Steve has put together a party mix of some of the strangest music from his collection.
Steve has also been on BBC Radio Leeds chatting with the breakfast presenter there Rima Ahmed. It is available on BBC Sounds in full (24th oct), but Steve’s piece is on his Instagram page. https://www.instagram.com/p/CyxuVQ1Rnxv/
If you haven’t yet seen it, we thought you would like to know about our new video which aims to promote the latest title The Art Of The Bizarre Vinyl Sleeve. Hit the Video link on our home page and go to our YouTube channel. The video gives an overview of the content along with images and previews and some mad music chosen by Steve Goldman from two of his albums. Our designer spent a couple of days putting this together and assures us he will never be able to get the cheesy tunes out of his head! Maybe we can persuade a CD label to put together a compilation for us?
